At least seven people have been killed and 1.4 million homes have suffered power outages in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as the most powerful storm in three decades.

According to the Associated Press, at least seven people were killed in Sao Paulo on the 12th local time, with record gusts of up to 108 kilometers per hour causing the wall to collapse and fall.

In addition, some areas were severely damaged, with power lines collapsing and trees uprooted.

Sao Paulo city officials say the storm has closed several airports, limited power to 1.4 million homes and disrupted water services in some places.

Authorities initially expected all of them to be recoverable within hours of the blackout, but 24 hours later, the blackout and water cut were still not improving, local media said.
