The rate of use of parental leave by employees of the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the local Employment and Labor Office, which are the main ministries of parental leave policy, was found to be low.

According to the data received by Kim Wi-sang, a member of the National Assembly's Environment and Labor Committee, from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, only 34% of the employees who took parental leave at the Ministry of Labor and the local labor office last year were women and 15% men.

In particular, the use rate of parental leave for female employees at the headquarters and the Seoul, Busan, and Daegu Regional Labor Offices was lower than the average use rate of women for national civil servants of 36.7%.

Representative Kim stressed that the Ministry of Labor should lead by example, rather than only encouraging the private sector to encourage the use of parental leave in society as a whole.
