The number of commercial concurrent positions of local government officials has increased by 87% in the past three years.

According to the data received by Yong Hye-in, a member of the Basic Income Party of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, from 235 metropolitan and basic local governments excluding Daegu, the number of commercial concurrent positions of local government officials increased from 859 in 2020 to 1,609 last year.

In particular, the number of concurrent positions in the real estate rental business increased 2.4 times from 101 to 246, with 453 concurrent positions in the field of education such as instructors and professors.

In addition, there were 70 simultaneous Internet blogs and YouTube activities and 63 apartment representatives.

The rules on local government service regulations stipulate that both for-profit and non-profit jobs can be applied for concurrent positions, but there should be no fear of reducing the efficiency of one's job or unfairly affecting public affairs.

"Although the number of commercial jobs for local government officials is increasing rapidly, there is no management of the head of the local government," Yong said. "As conflicts of interest and the possibility of neglect of the main job have increased, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security needs to investigate the nationwide situation and improve the system."

According to the current status of the National Public Officials received from the Ministry of Personnel Management, the number of concurrent positions increased by more than 50% from more than 1,700 in 2020 to 2,700 last year, and the real estate rental business increased 3.8 times from 45 to 173.
