[Gyeonggi] Gimpo City steps up efforts to restore the 300-year-old history of 'self-luminous rice'

Gimpo City has started a project to restore "Jagwang Rice," which has been cultivated in Gimpo since 300 years ago but has lost its reputation for 2,000 years.

As part of the self-luminous rice restoration activity, Gimpo Mayor Kim Byung-soo participated in the rice harvesting work with citizens and harvested 300 kilograms of grain.

Jagwang rice is a rice variety recorded in Joseon Dynasty literature such as forest economy and farmhouse Wolryeongga, saying, "It was cultivated in Mildari (currently Tongjin-eup, Gimpo-si), where Imjin River meets the Han River."The city of

plans to grow self-luminous rice on a scale of 3,000 square meters next year, producing not only seeds but also actual rice.

In addition, we plan to develop various processed products such as Jagwangmi brown rice, flakes, and Jagwangmi liquor to foster them as local specialties.
