It has been confirmed that Lee Hwa-young, a former vice governor of peace in Gyeonggi Province who was sentenced to heavy punishment in the first trial for the Ssangbangwool remittance case, requested bail from the second trial court.

The Suwon High Court said former lieutenant governor Lee requested bail yesterday (16th).

Earlier, former lieutenant governor Lee filed for bail in October and May last year, respectively, during the first trial after being arrested and charged in October 2022, but all were dismissed.

Former lieutenant governor Lee was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison in June on charges of violating the Foreign Exchange Transaction Act and receiving bribes, and the prosecution, former lieutenant governor Lee and both sides appealed, respectively, citing misunderstanding of facts, misunderstanding of legal principles and unfair sentencing.
