Japanese media reported that the yen-dollar exchange rate once rose to 150.26 yen in the Tokyo foreign exchange market.
In a related development, an official from Japan's Finance Ministry said, "We will keep an eye on market trends with tension."
The yen's depreciation comes as U.S. economic indicators such as retail sales in September have been solid, leading to a stronger movement to buy dollars and sell yen.
