It has been confirmed that North Korea has decided to send large-scale special forces to the Ukraine war to help Russia, and some have already moved to Russia.

This is the first large-scale dispatch of North Korean ground forces, and it is feared that it will have a significant impact on the security landscape around the world, not only on the Korean Peninsula but also in Northeast Asia.

The National Intelligence Service said on the 18th that "North Korea captured the transportation of North Korean special forces to the Russian region through a Russian naval transport ship from the 8th to the 13th," and that "it confirmed the start of the North Korean military's participation in the war."

According to the National Intelligence Service, 1,500 people have already moved from areas near Cheongjin, Hamheung, and Musudan to Vladivostok, Russia, using four landing ships and three frigates from Russia's Pacific Fleet, and the second transport operation is expected to take place soon.

An intelligence source said, "North Korea is expected to send a total of 12,000 troops to the war in Ukraine, including four brigades from the 11th Corps, the so-called Storm Corps, the elite special operations unit."

The dispatch appears to be based on the provisions of military intervention in the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed by the two countries in June.

Article 4 of the treaty states that if one of North Russia is in a state of war, the other will provide military and other aid by any means it possesses in accordance with the United Nations Charter and domestic laws of both countries.

It is feared that military cooperation between North Korea and Russia will intensify as the North Korean military participates in the war.

In particular, the possibility of the transfer of advanced military technologies such as intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) technology and nuclear-powered submarine technology, which North Korea is looking forward to in return for large-scale dispatch, has increased.

Concerns over Russian military intervention in the event of an emergency on the Korean Peninsula are also raised.
