According to foreign media, at least 87 people were killed, missing and more than 40 injured in Israeli attacks on Beit Lahiya and other areas in northern Gaza.
The health ministry said in a statement that rescue teams could not reach victims under the rubble and on the road due to communications disruptions and Israeli military operations.
"A terrible scene is unfolding with constant Israeli attacks in Gaza," the U.N. Middle East envoy, Thor Benesland, said on social media. "We condemn the continued attacks on civilians."
Anna Harford, coordinator of Doctors Without Borders, also pointed out that "the constant Israeli military operations and worsening violence we have seen in northern Gaza over the past two weeks are having terrible consequences," the Associated Press reported.
On the other hand, the Israeli military said it was checking the size of the casualties, but refuted that the initial investigation showed that Hamas' media reports were exaggerated.
