The Wall Street Journal reported on the 20th local time that Shinwar is gaining wider support after death than he was alive.

According to a poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy Research, only 29% of Gaza's residents supported Sinwar last month.

But as his last moments become known, there is a re-evaluation of Sinwar in Palestine and the Arab world, the Journal noted.

The mood is changing as it is revealed that Sinwar died fighting Israel to the end, not hiding in a tunnel or fleeing Gaza, as Israel has claimed and many have speculated.

There is also a sense of heroization in the Arab world.

Grand Mufti, Oman's supreme religious leader, called Sinwar a "heroic leader" and called him "dead while fighting without stepping back."

Egypt's top Sunni Muslim religious body, Al-Zhar University, also issued a statement praising the Palestinian resistance, while Hamas rival Fatah Party also called Sinwar a "martyr" and mourned his death.

A series of reactions are posted on Arab social media that Sinwar was bravely martyred.

Nasser Alkidwa, who served as Palestinian representative to the United Nations, said, "For Arab people, contrary to Israel's claim that Sinwar abandoned Gaza, the fact that he was fighting without running away."
