Seongnam Jungwon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said it sent 16 people, including representatives of the city council's People's Power, without detention on charges of obstructing the execution of public affairs by hierarchies.
They are accused of violating the principle of secret voting by taking pictures of their flag signs during the 9th late June 26 presidential election and posting them in a messenger group chat room that includes city councilors from the same party.
The police, who received a complaint from the Democratic Party of Korea of the City Council in July, have continued their investigation by confiscating and analyzing the cell phones of the accused city councilman.
Two members of the People's Power City Council, including Mayor Lee Deok-soo, reportedly did not reveal the charges as a result of the investigation.
