NCsoft decided to establish four subsidiaries through a simple and physical division at an extraordinary board meeting held on Oct. 21. This division is evaluated as a strategy to maximize the creativity and innovation of subsidiaries by establishing an independent game development studio system and strengthening AI R&D capabilities.
The newly established corporations are unlisted corporations consisting of three game development studios and one AI technology company. Each game development studio operates independently based on NCsoft's major IP (intellectual property rights), and AI companies focus on AI research and development.
The newly launched game studio will be centered on NCsoft's core game IPs, TL, LL, and TACTAN. The TL business division will be independent under the name 'Studio X', 'LL' will be independent under the name 'Studio Y', and 'TACTAN' will be independent under the name 'Studio Z'.
In particular, "TL" has continued to provide stable services since its global launch on October 1, and is expected to grow further through an independent studio system based on its competitiveness in the global market. "LLL" and "TACTAN" are shooting game and strategic game genres, respectively, and are evaluated as IPs with a high possibility of success in the global market, and through this, they plan to further strengthen the development power and expertise of each genre.
NC AI (tentative name), which will be newly established as an AI technology company, will be launched by dividing NC Research, NCsoft's existing AI research and development organization. The company plans to advance AI technology around its own large-scale language model (LLM), "Barco," and actively use AI technology to develop games and expand new businesses.
The split plan will be finalized through an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on November 28, and the split date for each new company is scheduled for February 1, 2025.
Along with the division, NCsoft plans to reorganize its organization. Through this, some development projects and support functions will be reduced or terminated with the aim of efficient utilization of resources, and voluntary retirement programs will be implemented along with manpower relocation.
