"The United States wants to end the conflict as soon as possible," Hochstein told a news conference after meeting with Lebanese Parliament President Navi Berry.
He also explained that it is not enough to comply with the U.N. resolution, which has established a buffer zone on Lebanon's border since 2006, and that it must be implemented accurately and transparently.
U.N. Resolution 1701 decided to keep only Lebanese and U.N. forces south of Lebanon's Ritani River, but it did not have much effect as Hezbollah and others did not withdraw.
"It is not in the interests of the Lebanese people to link Lebanon's future to other conflicts," Hochstein said, expressing his intention not to link it to a ceasefire in Gaza.
