Halmi Fortress is a stone fortress built across the border of Maseong-ri, Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu, and Dongbaek-dong, Giheung-gu, and is known to have been used from the mid-6th to the mid-7th century when Silla entered the Han River basin around the 6th century.
Along with the historical Bojeong-dong ancient tombs and Mabuk-dong settlements excavated nearby, Halmi Fortress is considered a very important site proving Silla's occupation of the Han River during the Three Kingdoms period.
In recognition of this importance, it was designated as Gyeonggi-do Monument No. 215 in 2007.The city of
conducted seven excavations by 2020, starting with the 2005 excavation survey, and identified most of its internal facilities, including three polygonal buildings, three rectangular buildings, a square stone storage, two water collection facilities, 64 blood transfusion houses, and 46 circular blood transfusions.
Later, in 2021, the National Heritage Administration (then Cultural Heritage Administration) filed an application for national historic designation, but the National Heritage Administration rejected it once, citing the need for additional evidence of the name Halmisanseong Fortress and the need for evidence of the time of the construction of the wall.
Yongin City will collect additional historical data and submit an application for the designation of Halmi Fortress to the National Heritage Administration through Gyeonggi-do Province as early as the first half of next year.
In Yongin, four sites are currently designated as national historical sites, including Seo-ri Goryeo Baekjayoji, Bojeong-dong Ancient Tombs, Simgok Seowon, and Seokseongsan Bongsu.
