The criteria and scope for sending seismic disaster texts sent when an earthquake occurs will change to even the cities, counties, and districts in the actual shaken area.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced that it will revise the criteria for sending seismic disaster texts from the 28th to the "magnitude" basis for shaking and intensity.

Accordingly, in the future, even if the earthquake is small, emergency disaster messages accompanied by a notification sound of 40 dB (decibel) or higher will be sent if the maximum expected magnitude is more than 5, and only earthquake safety guidance messages will be sent if the expected magnitude is less than 4.

In addition, the scope of earthquake disaster text transmission is subdivided from existing metropolitan cities and provinces into cities, counties, and districts, and even if an earthquake occurs outside Japan or other countries, text messages will be sent if there is a shaking in Korea.

The Korea Meteorological Administration also plans to reduce excessive anxiety and increase efficiency by adjusting emergency disaster texts sent across the country from 4.0 or higher to 5.0 or higher.
