Today (22nd), the National Assembly held a parliamentary audit in the field of sports.

Questions from ruling and opposition lawmakers focused on Lee Ki-heung, chairman of the Korea Sports Council, who is likely to challenge for a third consecutive term, and lax management and political intervention became a hot topic.

At the National Assembly, where Chung Mong-gyu, the president of the Korea Football Association, was away on a business trip abroad, Lee Ki-heung, the president of the sports association, was the main character.

The sports association's lax management and poor accounting management were on the cutting board first.

The two-hour sports competition held in January this year was criticized as a "1.2 billion-dollar civil service denunciation competition," and during the Paris Olympics, the local Korean house was criticized for its collusion with a specific company.

[Shin Dong-wook / National Assembly Style Committee member, People's Power: It seems that there are a lot of problematic budget execution that needs to be investigated. Is it appropriate to invite 13,000 people to have an athletic competition? Taking my acquaintances to the Olympics, spending hundreds of millions of dollars....]

[Kang Yoo-jung / National Assembly Style Committee member, Democratic Party of Korea: Is it completely irrelevant to the operation of a Korean house that costs 100 million won a day and (a specific) company's work?].]

[Lee Ki-heung / President of the Korea Sports Council: It's very embarrassing, but I think the employees have considered various things, such as unit prices]

There was also a battle of truth.

Recently, it was pointed out that the Sports Council, which is audited in all directions by the Board of Audit and Inspection and the Prime Minister's Office, is threatening the government and the people by using the International Olympic Committee and the IOC as shields.

[Lee Ki-heon / National Assembly Member for Style, Democratic Party of Korea] I'm asking from whom the IOC has heard that they are watching the domestic situation with doubts. Did you talk on the phone? (Yes, we talked about it when we met.) Did you talk about it when we met? Who translated it? Did you do it yourself? (Yes.)]

Some argued that Lee Ki-heung, the second-term chairman who has led the integrated sports association since 2017, exercised unwavering power by suppressing opposition forces.

[Oh Joo-young / President of the Korea Sepak Takraw Association: He mentioned the manipulation of state affairs in the past and the impeachment of the president twice, asking what would happen to the current president if he ignored the words of sportsmen. The image in it has been more than the president of sports.]

With both the ruling and opposition parties raising the level of criticism against Chairman Lee Ki-heung, Culture Minister Yoo In-chon and Korea Football Association President Chung Mong-kyu are also expected to attend Thursday's comprehensive audit, which will lead to more sharp questions on pending issues.
