Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who met at the BRICS summit, discussed financial settlement infrastructure, the Kremlin said on the 23rd.

Asked if he had discussed payment settlements between the two countries, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said "all pending issues, including financial cooperation, were discussed," according to Tass news agency.

The two leaders held bilateral talks for about an hour in the wake of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia.

Russia hopes the BRICS countries will move away from the Western-led financial settlement system and build a new system.

Russia has struggled with international trade and settlements since Ukraine's "special military operation" as it was forced out of the International Interbank Telecommunications Association due to Western economic sanctions.
