Three-year-old tries to raise relief falling from the sky as Palestinian Gaza is devastated by more than a year of war He was killed on the spot by shrapnel.

According to CNN on the 22nd, Sami Ayad, a 3-year-old boy staying with his family in a refugee camp in Canunis, southern Gaza, was immediately killed by a wooden board for carrying relief supplies that fell on the 19th.

Ayad's grandfather said the family was having breakfast when the aid fell and that the moment he was away for a while, a lump of aid fell on his grandchild, he ran mad with his child, but died instantly.

Ayad's aunts and cousins also suffered facial and foot injuries as a result of the drop, the family said.

They were angry that the air-dropping operation of relief supplies, a desperate measure devised by the international community to relieve Gaza's food shortage, not only claimed the lives of Ayad but deprived the people of their human dignity.

Ayad's grandfather said, "We don't want aid. I want dignity, he said. "This is enough of the insults and shame I am receiving from Arab countries as well as Israel."

On the day of Ayad's death, an aircraft from the United Arab Emirates dropped 81 food packages from the air in Kanyunis, according to Israeli authorities.

CNN has reached out to UAE authorities but has not heard back, and said wooden boxes of relief goods bearing the UAE flag were found in the refugee camp where Ayad died that day.
