The damage of voice phishing crimes impersonating government agencies such as the prosecution and the Financial Supervisory Service is concentrated on women in their 60s.

The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters said that out of 6,523 victims of impersonation-type voice phishing crimes received by September this year, 1,526 elderly people were in their 60s or older, accounting for 24% of the total.

In particular, the number of female victims in their 60s surged from 221 and 2.5% during the same period last year to 648 and 10% this year.

In addition, the proportion of female victims in their 60s increased from 8% in January to 23% in September.

On the other hand, the proportion of victims among young people under their 20s fell from 76% last year to 54% this year.

A police official warned that voice phishing organizations seem to be more likely to target elderly women who are vulnerable to information than young people who are accustomed to criminal methods.
