Prosecutors again demanded a fine of 3 million won for Kim Hye-kyung, the spouse of Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is accused of providing meals to spouses of former and current lawmakers with corporate cards in Gyeonggi Province during the last presidential election.

In the first trial of Kim's alleged violation of the Public Official Election Act held today (24th) at the Suwon District Court, the prosecution asked for the crime regardless of the amount of money as it tried to buy the spouse of a leading politician.

The prosecution demanded a fine of 3 million won for Kim at the final hearing in July, but the court resumed its argument ex officio, saying there was a need for additional hearings ahead of the sentence.

In his final statement, Kim repeatedly denied the allegations, saying he was neither involved in the crime nor ordered to do so.

However, regarding the process of paying for meals, he said, "I think there are doubts," adding that he will continue to live as a politician's wife and manage and be careful not to cause such incidents.

Kim was put on trial in August 2021 when Lee Jae-myung, the former governor of Gyeonggi-do Province, paid 104,000 won for meals for six people, including the spouses of former and current lawmakers, through his secretary. The first trial sentence for

Kim will be issued on the 14th of next month.
