The Canadian government has decided to drastically reduce annual green card issuance, conscious of public opposition to the growing influx of immigrants.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced an immigration policy that calls for significantly reducing the influx of immigrants in the future, the Associated Press reported.

The Trudeau administration, which has maintained a generous immigration policy, announced it would allow 500,000 new permanent residents a year over the next two years, but was met with public criticism.

As a result, the Canadian government has decided to drastically reduce the number of new permanent residents next year to 395,000, and to 380,000 in 2026 and 365,000 in 2027.

Public opinion about migrant inflows is worsening in Canada as the post-pandemic influx of immigrants and foreigners intensifies housing shortages, job shortages and social welfare burdens.
