Ukrainian forces claimed to have killed 6,662 Russian troops in the Russian mainland Kursk province for more than two months.

Kursk, in southwestern Russia, is a border area where Ukrainian forces entered and are fighting on August 6, and Ukraine predicts that North Korean troops sent will be put first in defense in the area.

Oleksandr Sirsky, the commander of Ukraine's armed forces, said 6,662 Russian soldiers have been killed and 711 have been captured in Kursk so far.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's remarks the day before that he had surrounded 2,000 Ukrainian troops in Kursk and had "started to remove them" were "clearly false information."

At one point in late August, Ukrainian forces claimed to have seized 1,250 square kilometers of land in Kursk, more than twice the size of the city (605 square kilometers).

Western analysts estimate that Russian forces have deployed 50,000 troops to the region and have regained much of the territory since September.

Ukrainian authorities claimed that North Korean troops were seen in Kursk on the 23rd.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he expects North Korean troops to be deployed to combat zones from the 27th to the 28th.
