Suspicions have emerged that Lim Hyun-taek, chairman of the Korean Medical Association, tried to receive a large amount of money in exchange for dropping the lawsuit from a member who slandered him.

It happened while some representatives of the Korean Medical Association were attempting to impeach Chairman Lim, and the internal strife of the Korean Medical Association is already escalating at a time when the legislative conflict is not resolved.

Reporter Kim Joo-young reports.

Lim Hyun-taek, chairman of the Korean Medical Association, is engaged in a truth fight with a member of the Korean Medical Association who posted slanderous comments online that he stole 400 million won from his major.

The member, an executive of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, was sued for defamation, and Chairman Lim asked for 100 million won in exchange for writing a letter of no punishment.Chairman

said he purposely asked for a large amount of money because he did not intend to write a letter of non-penalty, but the controversy is growing as the voice recording has been released.

Chairman Lim has already been embroiled in several rumors and has been criticized both inside and outside the medical community.

A case in point is that Jang Sang-yoon, senior presidential secretary for social affairs, who is pushing for an increase in medical schools, said he was talking like a schizophrenic patient, but the controversy grew.

[Kang Sun-woo / Member of the Democratic Party of Korea (last June, National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee meeting): It's an emergency hearing in the medical community, and I think we can proceed with the rude hearing of Chairman Lim Hyun-taek. It's almost like a rude bomber regardless of judges, ministers, vice ministers, lawmakers, and fellow doctors.]

Representatives of the medical association are also pushing for impeachment on the grounds of various rude talk and arbitrary decision-making.

Of the total 246 delegates, 103 requested an extraordinary general meeting for the proposal of no-confidence in Chairman Lim, and the general meeting is expected to be held as early as late next week.

In a call with YTN, Kim Kyo-woong, chairman of the parliamentary committee, said an emergency steering committee will be held early next week to decide on the date of the extraordinary general meeting, explaining that it should proceed as soon as possible.

If more than 164 delegates attend the general meeting and only 110 agree, Chairman Lim will immediately lose his position, and the Korea Medical Association will hold a by-election within 60 days.

In the face of a parliamentary conflict, the medical association, which should gather the will of doctors, has become concerned about the leadership vacuum and the aftermath afterwards.

If impeachment becomes a reality, it is expected that the government's blueprint, which tried to negotiate with doctors as soon as possible through the ruling and opposition party council, will inevitably be revised.
