Who do you think of first when you think of a female singer who gives a deep resonance with an appealing voice?

There may be many musicians, but Gummy is recognized as a singer who expresses women's hearts more delicately than anyone else.

Reporter Park Soon-pyo met Gummy, a singer who is loved by fans with a consistent voice even though it has already been more than 20 years since his debut.

Gummy came to Seoul with her family when she was young to major in classical piano.

However, the foreign exchange crisis has made it difficult for me to live at home and the road to study abroad becomes distant.

I never dreamed that the high school festival stage that I happened to climb would change the life of a wandering spider.

[Singer/Gummy: High school festival] I got to sing at the festival. At that time, people who came back to cast at the agency came and watched the performance. When I was asked if I would try singing, I boldly changed my mind. He boldly said he would quit playing the piano and sing, and since then, he has been a trainee since he was a freshman in high school.]

Gummy, who also majored in practical music in college, is attracting attention from her first album in 2003 due to her solid vocalization with basic skills strengthened by piano.

However, an unexpected vocal cord nodule comes along.

[Singer / Gummy] I'm the only one who can't promote. To be honest, I didn't realize that I received so much love for my first album. The most memorable moment was when all YG singers went to the awards ceremony together. I won a lot of awards at the end of the year. I was the only one who had to watch that scene at home. I was more afraid than that. Will I be able to sing in the future at that moment?]

The vocal cord crystals made the spiders harder.

He dominated the ranking program for his 2nd and 3rd albums, making him a clear star.

However, in the fourth album, I challenge myself to a new stage by throwing away my existing style more boldly.

[Singer / Gummy] I wanted to show you a variety of styles and genres within the range that I could pull off. It's the same since then until now. I can't suddenly do heavy metal or do a different color genre, but I think I tried to express it. So if you feel that it's very different, it's something to be thankful for, but it could be a gift for those who listen.]

Rather than following a popular actor or director, I looked closely at the script and video and boldly challenged works that I thought matched my voice.

[Singer / Gummy: I tend to look carefully at synopsis once I get a suggestion. And I look at the theme that I have to express and see what kind of actors the main characters are. I do a lot of songs that represent women's love themes. For a moment. So, I think there were times when the main character or I thought I didn't fit in the voice, so I turned it down.]

He has established himself as a "diva in the music industry" across solo albums and OSTs, but he does not miss performances that meet fans in person every year.

[Singer / Gummy] I want to take a rest when I think about my personal situation. Since my child is still young, I don't even go to overseas schedules. When I have to leave for a long time or leave home, I don't go and only do domestic schedules, but I have to go around the country for performances, so I drive around with him. So it was very physically difficult. But despite that, / I think it's my duty to those who like my music.]


The singer Gummy, who has never stopped challenging, will meet fans this year in seven cities across the country, starting with Jeonju, Busan, Gwangju, and Seoul.
