The government plans to set up a "heavy snow shelter" and increase "feeding" activities to prevent the death of mountain goats, the first-class endangered wild life, in winter.

The Ministry of Environment and the National Heritage Administration said they will come up with measures to strengthen the protection of mountain goats against natural disasters such as heavy snow caused by abnormal climate and implement them from tomorrow (28th).

Based on the evacuation of goats from private warehouses or stairs last year to avoid heavy snow, the government plans to set up 30 shelters throughout the mountains and set up 22 additional feeding stations in areas where many mountain goats have died.

The 4-meter-long "partial opening" point of the African swine fever barrier in the Seoraksan National Park area will be increased from the current 21 points to 44.

The Ministry of Environment explained that the expansion will partially open one place per 880m in the Misiryeong section and one place per 950m in the marginal age section.

1,022 mountain goats were reported lost to the National Heritage Administration last winter, and the African swine fever blocking fence along with heavy snow has been blamed for the deaths.
