Local media reported that Ukraine's presidential office said it would hold a presidential election shortly after the war with Russia ended.

Ukrainian media Kyiv Independent said on the 27th local time that Andriy Yermark, the presidential chief of staff, said in an interview with the Italian daily that "President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants all soldiers and refugees in foreign countries to be able to vote."

Presidential Chief of Staff Yermark also reiterated his position that a presidential election cannot be held in a martial law situation caused by the war, saying, "We need to put resources into the war now."

Mr. Zelensky's five-year term ended in May, but he has not held a presidential election on martial law grounds and remains president.

Because of this, Russia insists that Zelensky, whose term has expired, is no longer a legitimate president.
