But what they are riding is not a ship, but a pumpkin that has been dug out.
A pumpkin boat race was held in the Belgian town of Castelli Lichtart on the 27th, a few days before Halloween.
300 people participated in the heated competition, and more than 5,000 spectators gathered.
The town grows giant pumpkins, and after looking for ways to use leftover pumpkins in cooking, it started holding the competition in 2008.
Pumpkins between 300 and 500 kilograms are said to be the most suitable for making pears.
Seeds dug up while emptying pumpkins are stored for next year, and pumpkin pears are discarded in the field and recycled as fertilizer.
