In connection with the protracted war in Gaza, Egypt, one of the peacemakers in the ceasefire negotiations, has proposed a two-day temporary ceasefire.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a news conference on the 27th local time and said he proposed a two-day ceasefire in exchange for four Israeli hostages held by Hamas and some Palestinian prisoners of war.

It also added that negotiations for a permanent ceasefire would begin within 10 days of a temporary ceasefire.

Mr. el-Sisi did not say whether he had officially communicated the plan to Israel and Hamas, and neither side has yet responded.

The U.S. CIA and Israeli Mossad will meet in Doha, Qatar, to discuss a ceasefire.
