With the influx of smog from China again, the concentration of ultrafine dust in Baengnyeong Island has risen to a "bad" level, and the concentration of ultrafine dust is expected to increase in the interior of the Midwest overnight.

In the second half of the week, it is expected to rain in Jeju and the south due to the rain clouds left by the typhoon.

I'll connect you to a reporter.

Reporter Kim Min-kyung, is the concentration of ultrafine dust in Baengnyeong Island gradually increasing?

[Reporter]
Yes, as of 3 p.m., the concentration of ultrafine dust in Baengnyeong Island rose to 69μg per cubic meter as smog from China was introduced.

If the average hourly ultrafine dust concentration exceeds 36㎍g per cubic meter, it is classified as 'bad'.

The concentration of ultrafine dust in the Seoul metropolitan area and the Midwest is still 'normal' from 15 to 20μg per cubic meter.

Compared to the morning when the concentration of ultra-fine dust was 'good', it is now slightly higher.

However, the concentration of ultrafine dust in the interior will not increase significantly due to smooth air diffusion during the day.

The concern is from the night.

As the atmosphere stagnates overnight, ultrafine dust concentrations are expected to rise to "bad" levels in the Seoul metropolitan area and some inland areas in Chungnam.

The concentration of ultrafine dust in the Midwest is expected to remain "bad" until tomorrow morning, and air quality is expected to recover to normal levels as air spreads gradually from the afternoon. In the fall season of

, thick fog is often seen in the morning due to a large daily temperature difference, so fog and dust are likely to be intertwined and blur the view, so caution is needed on the way to work tomorrow morning.

From the day after tomorrow, it will rain a lot in Jeju due to the rain clouds left by the typhoon?

[Reporter]
Yes, that’s right.

Currently, Typhoon Kongrey, the 21st typhoon in southeastern Taiwan, is moving toward Taiwan in a very strong century.

By tomorrow afternoon, it will penetrate inland Taiwan and then rapidly weaken its power, which will later weaken to a temperate cyclone.

The Korean Peninsula will not be directly affected by typhoons.

However, as the rain clouds left by the typhoon move to the northeast, it is expected to rain mainly on Jeju Island and the southern part of the country from the day after tomorrow.

First of all, a lot of rain is expected the day after tomorrow around Jeju Island.

Up to 100mm of rain is expected on Jeju Island, 10 to 50mm on the southern coast, and 5 to 40mm on the southern inland.

In particular, Jeju Island is expected to receive strong rain of about 20 to 30 millimeters per hour with gusts of wind, thunder, and lightning the day after tomorrow, so caution is needed.

Along with rain, strong winds and waves of up to 4m are expected to be high around Jeju Island, the South Sea, and the southern sea of the West Sea.

The effects of the rain clouds left by the typhoon are expected to continue over the weekend.

The Korea Meteorological Administration is expected to announce the expected precipitation by the end of the week in a notice in the late afternoon.
