With the completion of Shin Hanul Units 1 and 2, the 27th and 28th nuclear power plants in Korea, Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 have also begun construction.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a comprehensive completion of units 1 and 2 and a groundbreaking event for units 3 and 4 at the Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power in Uljin, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Shin Hanul Units 1 and 2 are the 7th nuclear power plants to which the next generation Korean nuclear power plant (APR 1400), an export-type nuclear power plant, is applied.

It takes 1 to 1.5 GW (gigawatt) of power to operate one of the latest semiconductor production plants, and the amount of power produced by Shin Hanul Units 1 and 2 is large enough to run 2 to 3 semiconductor plants.

The government predicted that if Shin Hanul units 1 and 2 replace coal power generation, carbon dioxide emissions could be reduced by nearly 17.9 million tons every year.

At the same time, it was expected that the nuclear power plant industry, which had been on the verge of collapse for five years, would be revitalized as Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 began construction in earnest.
