According to foreign media, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mariya Zakharova said on the 30th local time that Foreign Minister Choi is on an official visit to Russia and will provide details later.
He then explained that Foreign Minister Choi visited Russia to hold strategic consultations with Lavrov in accordance with the agreement of the North Korea-Russia summit in June.
Asked if Choi's visit was related to the situation in Ukraine, Zakharova replied only that "a mutual visit between foreign ministers is a normal diplomatic practice."
He then said Russia and North Korea aim to regularly consult on bilateral issues and international issues in the framework of the North Korea-Russia summit and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, adding that "Choi's other visit to Russia is planned."
Foreign Minister Choi, who departed from Pyongyang on the 28th, stayed in Vladivostok, Russia's Far East, and then moved to Moscow.
Foreign Minister Choi is expected to coordinate diplomatic countermeasures regarding the dispatch of North Korean troops to Russia and discuss North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's visit to Russia.
