Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is coordinating a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the occasion of the Pacific Economic Cooperation and APEC summit next month, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

If the China-Japan summit takes place, Prime Minister Ishiba, who took office on the 1st, will meet with President Xi for the first time, confirming the promotion of a "strategic reciprocal relationship" that expands common interests and cooperates.

Prime Minister Ishiba will attend the APEC Summit to be held in Peru from the 15th to the 16th of next month and the G20 Summit to be held in Brazil from the 18th to the 19th.

Yomiuri said the plan to hold the China-Japan summit in time for APEC is likely.

Prime Minister Ishiba is expected to discuss bilateral issues with President Xi, including China's resumption of imports of Japanese seafood and China's military activities in the East and South China Sea.

However, as the Japanese ruling party has failed to secure a majority in the general election, there is a possibility that Ishiba may lose his position as prime minister in the next prime minister nomination election to be held in a special parliamentary session on the 11th of next month, there are concerns that uncertainties in Japanese diplomacy have increased.
