As the Democratic Party of Korea released a recording of the phone call between President Yoon Suk Yeol and Myung Tae-kyun, some senior members of the ruling party argued that it was not a legal problem.

Kwon Sung-dong, a member of the People's Power, told reporters that the phone call was made when President Yoon was elected before he took office, so it was not a reason for impeachment as the opposition party claims.

In that sense, he stressed that the content is completely different from former President Park Geun Hye's election interference.

He also explained that any member of the party can talk about candidates for public office, and that the president can also talk about political opinions as the first member of the party.

Representative Kwon Young-se also pointed out that the time of the public call was May 9, 2022, which is not a legal problem as President Yoon was not a public official at the time.

Floor leader Choo Kyung-ho said he understood the issue to the extent that the presidential office announced it, and declined to say that he thought the party officials, including the secretary-general, would do it if there was anything else to grasp.
