Eleven individuals, including Choi Kwang-soo, former head of the Economic and Trade Representative of Mozambique, were subject to independent sanctions against North Korea, who were involved in the development of weapons or the export of related goods to North Korea.
In addition, four institutions involved in earning foreign currency in North Korea and Senegal, including the Geumneung General Assembly, have been added to the independent sanctions.
The independent sanctions will take effect on the 6th after publication of the official gazette, and will be punished according to the relevant laws if financial or foreign exchange transactions are conducted without permission.
It is the first time in four months that the South Korean government has announced its own sanctions on North Korea since July when it designated Hong Kong shipping companies involved in North Korea's illegal maritime activities as subject to its own sanctions.
