Cultural industries such as movies, webtoons, and music are one of the most serious areas in Korea.

In the non-metropolitan area, there is a place that challenges the webtoon field by creating a base that gathers writers, trainees, and contents.

Reporter Kim Geun-woo covered it.

Gong Doo-jin, a new webtoon writer in his first year of debut.

Not long ago, I moved into a Webtoon Creation Center in Gyeongsan, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Being from a non-metropolitan area, I was burdened by trying to become a webtoon artist and I was contemplating going to Seoul several times.

[Kong Doo-jin / Artist of Gyeongsan Webtoon Creation Center: It's not easy to learn and work in non-metropolitan areas right now. (Other) writers teach me one-on-one, and I can learn a lot of know-how about working..]

The webtoon creation center, which Gyeongsan City recently opened, has six resident artists like Kong and 30 trainees. He joined hands with the bereaved family of the late artist Lee Sang-moo who drew the old popular cartoon '∀'

, we even planned a 'comic festival' where you can meet the writer in person and experience webtoons.

As the size of the domestic webtoon industry reaches 1.5 trillion won, the goal is to grow it into a new local industry in the long run.

By 2026, we plan to create a "comic village" nearby and increase the scale of related support.

[Cho Hyun-il / Gyeongsangbuk-do Gyeongsan Market: The future is the AI era. We create a new ecosystem by combining webtoon contents with AI, and since Gyeongsan is a city with many universities in the region, we want to break through webtoon to form a new industrial form....]

Attention is focusing on whether the local government's challenge to find a new way out by challenging the cultural industry, which is particularly concentrated in the metropolitan area, will pay off.
