Although the U.S. Federal Reserve and the Bank of Korea have lowered their benchmark interest rates, the loan rate has not fallen amid household loan regulations, which is expected to only widen the difference between banks' deposits and loans.

According to the "comparison of the loan-to-deposit interest rate difference" statistics of the Korea Federation of Banks' consumer portal, the difference in the loan-to-deposit interest rate of the five major commercial banks in September was 0.43 to 1.05 percentage points.

Among commercial banks, NH Nonghyup recorded the highest difference in deposit-to-deposit interest rates at 1.05%, and Jeonbuk Bank ranked first in 19 banks, beating Gwangju Bank and Citibank Korea, which have a difference of 5 percentage points.

The difference in interest rates between deposits and loans widened because banks raised lending rates from August at the request of financial authorities, and the Bank of Korea's base rate cut last month only lowered deposit rates.
