Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance on NBC's popular comedy show "Saturday Night Live" and SNL on the 2nd local time.

In the opening of the SNL show, which airs for the last time before the presidential election, Harris appeared as an "image in the mirror," dressed in the same costume as actress and comedian Maya Rudolph, who plays her.

Vice President Harris greeted Rudolph with "Nice to meet you, Kamala," and the two continued their language play with the name "Kamala," drawing laughter from the audience.

Vice President Harris was originally scheduled to travel to Michigan after a campaign rally in North Carolina that evening, but changed his destination to New York and arrived in Manhattan, the SNL recording site.

SNL, known for its political satire, also featured former President Barack Obama and Senator John McCain separately in the run-up to the 2008 presidential election.

Former President Donald Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, also appeared on SNL in 2004 before entering politics and in 2015 when he was running for president.
