Protests have been held in Serbia to hold the government accountable in connection with the collapse of an outdoor roof at a train station that killed 14 people.

Thousands gathered at the Ministry of Construction and Transportation building in central Belgrade, the capital, on Thursday local time, demanding that those responsible be punished.

They shouted "arrest, arrest" and protested against the police blocking the entrance to the building, saying they were "protecting the killer."

A concrete outdoor roof suddenly collapsed at a train station in the northern Serbian city of Novisad during the day on the 1st, hitting citizens below it.Fourteen people were killed and three seriously injured in the

accident, including a 6-year-old girl.

Critics point out that poor construction caused the disaster at Novisad railway station, which reopened in July after three years of renovation.

Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic said authorities were investigating those responsible for the disaster and promised a thorough investigation.

Novisad prosecutors say they have investigated 26 officials involved, including Construction and Transport Minister Goran Besic, and have secured important documents.
