Dozens of people, including incumbent doctors and insurance planners, have been arrested on charges of collecting large amounts of insurance money by subscribing to brain and cardiovascular disease insurance and receiving false medical certificates.

The Jeonbuk National Police Agency arrested four people, including insurance planner A and doctor B, and sent 42 people, including seven doctors, to the prosecution.

They are accused of stealing KRW 3.7 billion from 21 insurance companies for about three years from July 2020 by receiving false medical certificates of brain or cardiovascular disease, of which KRW 1.4 billion was collected.

In particular, A, who has worked at the hospital, enticed customers who came for insurance counseling to focus on high-value brain and cardiovascular disease insurance, and went to doctors related to him to receive false medical certificates.

If a doctor prepares a false medical certificate, he or she may be sentenced to up to three years in prison or imprisonment, suspended for up to seven years, or fined up to 30 million won.
