Civic group Workplace Gapjil 119 said it has launched an online union that anyone can participate in based on online cafes.
The organization explained that it created an online union considering that the nation's union membership rate was only 13.1% as of the end of 2022 and that it is difficult for office workers who work for small companies or are freelancers to join the union.
It added that online unions were needed to protect their rights, especially as there were many industries where bullying in the workplace was severe and the industry was narrow, making it difficult to even raise problems.
He then said that anyone can join the union anonymously if they pay more than 5,000 won per month for the membership application, and if they become members, they can receive labor counseling or education. The
online union plans to create a branch by industry if more than 30 office workers from each industry gather.
