Joo Jin-woo, chairman of the People's Power Legal Advisory Committee, submitted a request for a live TV broadcast in the criminal case of the defendant Lee Jae-myung to the Seoul Central District Court this afternoon (4th).
Representative Joo asked for the live broadcast of the trial in consideration of the precedents of former Presidents Park Geun-hye and Lee Myung-bak, saying, "Please prioritize the people's right to know rather than calling for the human rights of representative Lee himself."
He also added that he strongly asks Representative Lee to agree to the disclosure of the sentence for the people's right to know and their own defense.
Under the current law, the presiding judge can permit broadcasting at the request of the defendant, and if deemed necessary for the public interest, he can permit it regardless of the defendant's consent.
