Appeals for former and current lawmakers who were convicted in the first trial of receiving money envelopes ahead of the Democratic Party of Korea's national convention will begin at the end of this month.

The Seoul High Court has set the first trial date for the appeals trial of former lawmakers Yoon Kwan-seok and Lim Jong-sung and Democratic Party lawmaker Huh Jong-sik on charges of violating the party law on the afternoon of the 28th.

The appeal hearing of former lawmaker Lee Sung-man, who is accused of the same charges, will be held on the morning of the 6th.

They are accused of attending a support meeting for former CEO Song Young-gil in April 2021 and exchanging money envelopes.

Former lawmaker Lee is also accused of handing over 11 million won as a slush fund to former representative Song's campaign officials.

Earlier in the first trial, former lawmaker Yoon and former lawmaker Lee were sentenced to nine months in prison and two years of probation, while former lawmaker Lim was sentenced to three months in prison and one year of probation.

Lawmaker Huh, the only incumbent lawmaker, was also sentenced to three months in prison and one year of probation in the first trial, but he will lose his seat if his prison sentence is confirmed.
