Jones's publicist, Arnold Robinson, reportedly said he died at his Los Angeles home on Thursday night as his family watched.
Jones is considered a versatile music producer, songwriter, and TV show producer representing the 20th century.
In particular, he produced Thriller and Bad, which are considered the masterpieces of Michael Jackson, the "King of Pop."
