It is feared that the death toll will surge as drainage work begins in the underground parking lot of a large shopping mall flooded by surprise heavy rains in southeastern Spain on the 29th of last month.

According to APTN on the 4th local time, Aldia city rescue teams in Valencia, Spain, are pumping water to search the underground parking lot of the Bonair shopping center.

Witnesses testified that the 5,800-square-meter underground parking lot was filled to a height of 3 meters.

On the 1st, divers approached the parking lot and found several bodies, but the search was suspended because they could not secure a view in the muddy water.

The shopping center is one of Valencia's largest shopping malls and has had a significant floating population, so rescue officials fear there will be large numbers of bodies of people who have not been able to escape.

The death toll from the surprise downpour was counted as 217 by the 3rd.
