Wi Sung-kyu, a former army officer in his 40s, witnessed a suspect who stole his wallet and ran away while riding a bicycle at Boramae Park in Seoul at around 4:30 p.m. on the 19th of last month, chased him down, suppressed him, and handed him over to the police.
A man in his 40s who stole his wallet was sent without detention on charges of theft on the 24th of last month.
The police, who delivered a letter of appreciation and compensation of 300,000 won to Wi, said they will continue to do their best to prevent crimes, saying, "It is an example of how important citizen cooperation plays a role in maintaining local safety."
