Dixville Notch, a small town in the northeastern state of New Hampshire, has traditionally opened polling stations at midnight on presidential election day and cut off the first tape of voting.
Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump will vote in different states to decide their entry into the White House.
In most states, voting will begin at 5-8 a.m. and close between 7-9 p.m.
The vote will be won by candidates who have a majority of more than 270 out of a total of 538 electors allocated to 50 U.S. states and the capital, Washington, D.C.
The outline of the president-elect is expected to take several days due to the possibility of a delay in counting votes due to a tight race and a surge in mail-in voting.
