German federal prosecutors say they arrested eight members of the so-called Saxon separatist group in Leipzig, Saxony, Dresden, and Zgozellez, Poland, near the Maisen border on the 5th local time, and raided more than 20 places, including residences.
According to local prosecutors, they are accused of forming a terrorist organization in November 2020 advocating racism and anti-Semitism and trying to seize territory in the former East German region, including Saxony, by force.
They were found to have 15 to 20 members and were equipped with military equipment and repeatedly trained, including shooting, night marches, and urban guerrilla tactics.
Prosecutors also said they planned to remove unwanted people through "ethnic cleaning" if necessary.
German media outlet Der Spiegel reported that the suspects arrested were all 21-25 years old and included a far-right German Alternative Party politician who serves as a member of the local council in Grima, outside Leipzig.
In Germany, the Patriotic Union, a right-wing extremist group aimed at overthrowing the federal republic system with the form of a military organization, was also caught in 2022.
At the time, it turned out that they had set the goal of arresting key federal and parliamentary figures, establishing a transitional government, and restoring the German Empire that had disappeared with the defeat of World War I in 1918.
