Cho Kyu-yeon, chairman of the May 18 Injured People's Association, who took office in July, was found to have falsely stated his high school education.

Chairman Cho wrote on his May resume that he graduated from "Gwangju High School" and on his cover letter that he was arrested while fighting against martial law forces as a citizen in his second year of high school on May 18.

However, the YTN report confirmed that Chairman Cho was an academy student preparing for the qualification exam during the May 18 Democratic Movement, and that he only graduated from high school in 2021.

In addition, the graduated high school turned out to be an affiliated "Broadcasting and Communication High School," not Gwangju High School.

Chairman Cho was also found to have been detained for 24 days after being taken into custody on September 23, four months later, not during the May 18 Democratic Movement in 1980.

As a result, when some members of the May 18 group filed a lawsuit for invalidation of the election, claiming that Chairman Cho violated the articles of association and forged his academic background, Chairman Cho said he sued them for defamation, calling them excessive scratches.
