The KOSPI opened 15 points higher at 2,591.90, continuing a strong rally, but ended up trading 0.52 percent lower at 2,563.51.
Secondary battery-related stocks weakened, with LG Energy Solution falling more than 7% due to concerns over the abolition of the Inflation Reduction Act if candidate Trump is elected.
Hyundai Motor fell 3.95 percent, and Samsung Electronics also lost 0.52 percent.
On the other hand, Samsung Biologics and Shinhan Holdings rose as bio and financial stocks expected to benefit were strong.
The tech-heavy KOSDAQ index closed 1.13 percent lower at 743.31.
