Prosecutors have demanded a heavy sentence for Song Young-gil, former chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is considered the pinnacle of the suspicion of spreading money envelopes at the Democratic Party of Korea

The prosecution asked the court to sentence former CEO Song to nine years in prison and a fine of 100 million won at a final trial held at the Seoul Central District Court yesterday (6th).

The prosecution noted that former lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok and others were recently convicted, stressing that Song should bear the greatest criminal responsibility as the largest beneficiary of the case and the final decision maker.

On the other hand, Song stressed in his final statement that he had not intervened at all, saying that the transcripts showed that he should not engage in elections that spend money and organizing activities that cost money.

The court has designated January 8th next year as the date of sentencing.Former leader

Song is accused of intervening in the process of distributing money envelopes containing some 60 million won to lawmakers and others in the party in order to be elected as party leader at the 2021 Democratic Party of Korea National Convention.

In addition, he is accused of receiving 760 million won in illegal political funds through the Peace and Living Problem Research Institute, a neighboring organization, and 40 million won of them was accepted as bribes.
