President Yoon Suk Yeol will give a public statement and hold a press conference in Yongsan's presidential office shortly.
President Yoon plans to directly answer allegations of intervention in the nomination of Myung Tae-kyun, various suspicions related to his wife, Kim Gun-hee, and calls for personnel reform.
In the conversation ahead of the question-and-answer session with reporters
, we will directly explain the direction of state administration in the second half along with major achievements in the first half of his term.
I'll connect to the site and listen to it.
[Yoon Suk Yeol / President]
My fellow citizens,
The heat continued until a while ago, and now it's quite chilly in the morning and evening.
I'm worried if you have any difficulties preparing for winter.
The president is always a worried position.
I'm worried about hot when it's hot, and I'm worried about cold when it's cold.
If the economy is bad, I'm worried about the business owners, and I'm worried that prices will rise even if the economy improves.
I think it is the president's responsibility to take care of the lives of the people while worrying 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Now it's the halfway point of my term.
Looking back, for the past two and a half years, I've been running really tirelessly to do what the people have entrusted me with.
There may be a lot of shortcomings in the eyes of the people, but my sincerity has always been by the people.
However, apart from my efforts, there are things that have worried the people.
What I started for the people's livelihood and the future of the Republic of Korea has caused inconvenience to the people, and I have worried about the people around me.
I don't think the president is an excuse.
Everything is my fault, my voodoo Sochi.
I apologize to the people and sincerely apologize.
In the future, we will take care of it and look at it again and again so that we do not cause inconvenience or concern to the people.
My fellow citizens,
Coming here today, it reminds me of the time I took office as president.
I knew the situation in the country was difficult, but when I took office, all conditions were much more difficult than I thought.
Russia has invaded Ukraine amid ongoing fallout from the COVID pandemic.
Global supply chain disruptions have sent crude oil and raw material prices soaring, and high prices, high interest rates, and high exchange rates have persisted.
It was a more severe global complex crisis than the 2008 global financial crisis.
Above all else, our people were really struggling.
Seeing the difficult lives of the people, it really hurt me.
There were many days when the government was desperate to see if it could get through this total crisis.
I put all my energy into overcoming the crisis by correcting every wrong thing one by one.
The only idea was to rekindle our economy and make your people's lives a little better.
Now the economy is stretching.
Exports are expected to hit record highs this year, and the current account surplus is expected to exceed $70 billion.
This year's economic growth rate is also expected to exceed 2% of the potential growth rate.
When the contract for the Czech nuclear power plant construction project worth 24 trillion won is completed in March next year, it will further revitalize our industry, including the nuclear power plant industry.
I deeply thank the people for their hard work.
My fellow citizens,
will enter the second half of your term.
I will work with all my might until the end of my term on May 9, 2027.
Back to the beginning, let's start again.
Above all, I will focus on the government's capabilities with the change of people's livelihoods at the top of the list for the remaining two and a half years.
We will lower the cost of living by further stabilizing the price and housing market.
We will supply more housing to the areas that the people want by lifting the green belt and revitalizing reconstruction.
Financial support and comeback support programs for small business owners and self-employed people will also be customized.
We will expand scholarships and increase jobs so that young people can fulfill their dreams to their fullest.
We will continue to expand the welfare of the weak and continue to increase the beneficiaries of service welfare for the elderly and the disabled.
We will respond to crimes that destroy the lives of ordinary people with zero tolerance and keep the daily lives of the people safe.
We will strengthen our freedom and peace by establishing a new administration in Washington and a perfect security posture between South Korea and the U.S.
We will further advance the security, economic, and high-tech cooperation of the Korea-U.S. alliance to expand the playground where our youth and businesses can run.
We will also step up our efforts to increase the dynamics of our economy.
In addition to the semiconductor industry, we will actively discover and foster new growth engines such as AI, advanced bio, and quantum, and further strengthen policy support.
We will continue to actively promote the complete restoration of the nuclear power plant ecosystem.
My fellow citizens,
The 4+1 reforms of health care, pensions, labor, education, and overcoming the population crisis are directly related to people's livelihoods, and protecting our future.
We will find a fundamental solution to the population crisis by resolving excessive competition and opening a livable local era.
Medical reform will be carried out calmly and meticulously so that the people do not worry.
Pension reform, as a single reform proposal has been submitted to the National Assembly, is expected to be discussed as soon as possible.
Labor reform, on the basis of establishing the rule of law, will create a flexible and vibrant labor market.
Education reform is now on track.
We will always expand spring schools as planned and establish a new educational framework for fostering convergent future talents.
We will listen to public opinion and public sentiment to minimize the inconvenience of the people and take more care of them so that the reform can be completed without a hitch.
My fellow citizens,
I am well aware of the shortcomings of my government.
We will fix the parts that need to be fixed.
We will humbly accept the will of the people to reform the state administration.
We will further strengthen communication between the government and the government to become a competent government and a competent political party working for the people.
Now we are facing fierce internal and external challenges.
There is no time to waste due to consumptive conflict.
I don't think there's anything more important than people's livelihoods and the future.
Even if you point out what you need to point out, please work together for the people's livelihood and the future.
I will also communicate more and try harder while looking back on my mindset to gather the hearts of all the people.
We will do our best to help the people experience changes in people's livelihoods and dream of a better future.
Thank you.
